From Pain to Purpose: Building Alexa Martha Designs

Some businesses are built from ambition. Alexa Martha Designs was built from something deeper — a return to purpose after years of putting everyone else first.

Alexa Martha Butler grew up in Germany, the daughter of a jeweler. From an early age, she was surrounded by metalworking tools, gemstones, and the quiet discipline of the craft. She went on to earn a formal Journeyman's degree in goldsmithing  and jewelry design— a rigorous, hands-on education that would shape everything she created decades later.

But life had other plans first.

🛠️ The Journey From Pain to Purpose

After moving to Missoula, Montana with her husband and starting a family, Alexa stepped away from her career to raise her children. It wasn't until 2006 — when her second child started school — that she picked up her tools again.

What began as a quiet creative outlet became something much more. After navigating personal hardships, Alexa found that working with her hands was healing. Wire-wrapping copper, setting stones, sculpting pendants — each piece became a way to process, to grow, and ultimately, to give back.

In 2015, she officially launched her business under the name Lexi Butler Designs. In 2020, the brand was reborn as Alexa Martha Designs — a name that better reflected the woman and the mission behind every piece.

🌐 From a Montana Studio to a Global Stage

What started at a kitchen table in Missoula has grown into a multi-channel handmade jewelry brand with reach far beyond Montana's borders.

Early on, Alexa's networking landed her jewelry in celebrity gift lounges at the Emmy's and Golden Globes, and earned her features on local and national television. Word spread — not through algorithms, but through the authenticity of the work itself.

Today, Alexa Martha Designs is available across more than 320 e-commerce platforms, including Michaels MakerPlace and PublicSquare, alongside her flagship store at alexamarthadesigns.com.

Every piece is still handmade in her Missoula home studio. She works with upcycled copper, responsibly sourced gemstones, and sterling silver — creating intricate designs like multi-wrap rings, wire-sculpted pendants, and awareness jewelry that carries real meaning for the people who wear it.

💛 Purpose With a Passion

Alexa's tagline isn't just marketing — it's a lived philosophy. A portion of her work supports charitable causes, and her awareness jewelry lines — including pieces for autism awareness and caregiver support — are worn by people who want their jewelry to say something.

If you've ever wanted to wear something that was made with intention, by someone who knows exactly why she makes it, you've found the right place.
