☀️✨ Don’t Take Away My Sparkle! My Case for More Evening Sunshine
I know, I know. Nobody seems to like changing the clocks.
Twice a year we mess with our schedules, everybody complains, our sleep gets thrown off, and there is always at least one clock somewhere in the house that stays wrong for the next six months.
But before we say goodbye to those beautiful long evenings, I have one very important question:
What about my sparkles?! 😂✨
Hear me out.
As a jewelry designer and maker, I have a completely selfish reason for loving those long, sunny evenings:
My jewelry LOVES natural sunlight. ☀️💎
I work with sparkling crystals in many of my designs, and while they certainly sparkle under artificial light, something completely different happens when you take them outside.
The sunlight hits those tiny facets and suddenly...
FLASH. SPARKLE. FLASH. ✨💎☀️
Move your wrist a little and you get another burst of light. Turn your hand and there goes another one.
Sometimes I'll finish a piece of jewelry in my Montana studio, polish it, look at it under my work lights and think, Ohhhh, that's pretty.
Then I take it outside.
THAT is when the real show begins.
☀️ There Is Nothing Quite Like Natural Sunlight
If you've ever worn crystal jewelry outside on a beautiful sunny day, you probably know exactly what I'm talking about.
Natural sunlight brings those crystals to life.
It lets you see the texture of the metal, the warm tones of copper, the brightness of sterling silver and, of course...
THE SPARKLE! ✨
Lots and lots of sparkle.
And if you've followed Alexa Martha Designs for any length of time, you probably already know something about me:
I like sparkle.
Okay.
I LOVE sparkle. 😂
I've been known to add crystals to a design simply because I looked at it and thought:
You know what this Mixed Metal Crystal Fusion Bangle needs? A little more bling.
What can I say?
Life is too short for boring jewelry.
⏰ And Then We Change the Clocks...
Here's where I have a problem.
We turn the clocks back and suddenly it feels like somebody flipped a switch.
No more long evenings.
No more lingering outside while the sun is still shining. No more looking at the clock after dinner and realizing there's still daylight left. No more squeezing one more beautiful hour out of the day.
Instead, the sun disappears earlier and those long, light-filled evenings are gone until the seasons turn again.
And for this jewelry maker, that means something else disappears too:
Prime sparkle time! ☀️✨
Everyone else might be celebrating that extra hour of sleep.
Meanwhile, I'm standing here thinking:
Forget the extra hour of sleep. I want my long evenings—and my extra hour of SPARKLE! 😂✨
Think about it.
During those long evenings, you can leave the house for dinner wearing your favorite crystal bracelet, ring, necklace or earrings and still catch the sunlight.
Sit outside. Take a walk. Meet friends. Work in the garden. Enjoy the porch.
And every time that sunlight catches your jewelry...
SPARKLE! ✨
Then fall comes along, the clocks change, and suddenly Mother Nature is turning off the lights before we've even figured out what we're having for dinner.
Excuse me?
I wasn't finished with my evening—and my Sterling Silver Wrapped Crystal Flex Cuff by Alexa Martha wasn't finished sparkling yet! 😂💎
💎 Yes, I'm Fighting for My Sparkles
I'm probably not going to convince the entire country to make decisions about our clocks based on how fabulous Alexa Martha Designs jewelry looks in the evening sunshine.
Although...
I think it's a perfectly reasonable argument. 😂
You can complain about changing the clocks.
You can complain about losing an hour in the spring.
You can complain about trying to remember whether we're supposed to “spring forward” or “fall back.”
I'll probably agree with you about most of it.
But when somebody wants to take away my long, sunny evenings, I'm going to be standing over here in Montana holding up one of my sparkling bracelets and asking:
“BUT HAVE YOU CONSIDERED THE JEWELRY?!” 😂💎☀️
Because there's something wonderfully simple about stepping outside on a sunny evening, looking down at a piece of jewelry you're wearing and watching it suddenly light up.
Those little Crystal Butterfly Crystal Spiral Earrings flashes of light make me smile.
And maybe that's part of why I keep putting crystals into my designs.
Jewelry doesn't always have to be serious.
Sometimes it can simply be something beautiful that catches the sunlight, makes you stop for a second and think:
Ooooooh... SPARKLY! ✨✨✨
So while everybody else continues debating what we should do with our clocks, I'll be over here fighting for the issue that really matters:
☀️ SAVE THE LONG EVENINGS. SAVE THE SUNSHINE. SAVE THE SPARKLES. ✨
Because at Alexa Martha Designs, I'll take every extra hour of natural sunlight I can get.
One Designer. One Maker. Truly Handmade Jewelry.
